Football Practices
Practices begin on Aug. 1st. For Football: For flag teams, during the month of August your child will typically practice three days a week. For tackle teams, during the month of August your child will practice five days a week (Monday-Friday), two hours per day. The actual days and times for flag and tackle practices are set by the head coach of each team after the teams have been formed, but most often, the practices are in the late afternoons. It is mandatory that your child attend all conditioning practices during that period of time. After Labor Day, practices will be cut down to three days a week, plus one game every Saturday (but potentially due to scheduling issues on a Sunday). Practice fields this year will be in Carmel Valley. We will assign practice fields following the draft in June.
Do NOT schedule any vacation time in August. It is the month for conditioning and learning. All players and their parents must make a commitment to be available for all practices and games. Football requires a serious commitment, at all age levels.
Regular Season Games
Games typically begin the first week of September; there is a usually a pre-season game the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Once teams have been formed by the various associations, Conference will prepare schedules and give them to us. When we receive them, we will post them on our web site under each team’s home page. In our experience, the schedules will be made available to us sometime in late-July or August.
Many games are at our home field, Torrey Pines High School and some game are away. Palomar tries to balance it out the schedule so teams don't have many far away games. The other teams in Palomar Conference are located in Carlsbad, Escondido, Fallbrook, La Costa Canyon, Menifee, Murrieta Valley, Oceanside, Poway, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, San Marcos, Scripps Ranch, Temecula Valley, Valley Center, Vista and Wildomar. The schedule will list the locations of each game and the website will have links to maps and driving directions.
Playoffs
The Season will continue through the end of November and possibly through the middle of December, if your child’s team or squad enters regional and/or national championships. All competitve tackle teams above the level of Mitey Mite are eligible for post-season play based on their league record. Teams at the D2 level are eligible for local, regional and national championships. Teams at the D3 level are eligible for local championships and a southern sectional championship with teams from outside the San Diego region. Flag teams will play in a post-season Flag Fest. Jr. Mitey Mite and Mitey Mite teams will all be eligible for post-season Chocolate Chip Bowl and Chocolate Bowl games.
Any team traveling is responsible for fundraising as the cost of traveling is not covered in the registration fees. There are many fundraising opportunities and the league may have limited funds available to supplement the cost of post-season travel.
