TPPW is a league open to eligible kids that live within the Torrey Pines High School boundaries only. Cheer Sign-up is for age 6-15 as of July 31, 2010. For more infomation, please read below and also be sure to read the FAQ page.

Our goal is for the girls to learn the fundamentals and safety of cheerleading, to have fun, make new friends, and at the same time, learn the importance teamwork and responsibility to others.

We realizse this is a lot to read, but important to know what you are comitting to, when you do sign up with Torrey Pines Pop Warner.

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFO:

ALL CHEER PAPERWORK IS DUE BY JUNE 30TH. Tracking the paperwork and documentation for 150 cheerleaders is a time consuming and tedious job for our volunteers. We need your help!!!! Cheer is very strict about this deadline, to maintain our sanity. The participant contract (plus one copy), copy of birth certificate/passport and wallet size photo are due at one of the walk in registration dates you attend. A parent AND cheerleader (even Flag) must sign/write their name on page 3 of the contract. By June 30th, we need to have the full year report card, physical (completed on the TPPW form by the practitioner, plus one copy) and medical waiver (completed by a parent plus one copy). You can get a "walk in" sports physical at PPH Expresscare, located in Albertsons/Sav-on at 14340 Penasquitos Dr. SD 92129. Last year the cost was $25. Please be sure that the full address and phone/fax number of the practitioner is on the physical form. Many times this info is not on their address stamp.

Please make sure ALL info on the report card is copied and legible. Many times the school, name and grade is cut off when copied. PLEASE reduce legal size to letter (78%). School offices close just after school is out, so BE SURE YOU GET A COPY OF YOUR FULL YEAR REPORT CARD before school offices are closed for the summer. REMEMBER TO KEEP A COPY OF THESE ITEMS, IN THE EVENT THEY ARE LOST!

Our squad books are checked by Palomar the beginning of July, and all paperwork needs to be in by June 30th, to allow time for our volunteers to open mail, sort, calculate grade percentages, and place in the squad books alphabetically. Please make sure that CHEER is on the outside of your envelope and DO NOT SEND FOOTBALL AND CHEER documentation together for siblings, as they go to two different divisions of TPPW. You may mail or hand carry your envelope and drop off at our Post Mail Box location, located at Postal Annex (between Vons and Baskin Robbins)TPPW-PMB 551, 3830 Valley Center Dr. #705, SD 92130.

We are very grateful when you are proactive and ensure your paperwork in on time! If you can help this year, please contact us :)

TPPW CHEERLEADING Squad Formation Policy:

Please note age classifications as of 7/31 for Cheer Only:

Flag: 6-7 yrs
Jr. Mitey Mite: 7-8 yrs
Mitey Mite: 8-9 yrs
Jr. Pee Wee: 9-11 yrs
Pee Wee: 10-12 yrs
Jr. Midget: 11-13 yrs
Midget: 12-15 yrs.

(AGE AS OF 7/31)

1. Starting with the 2010 season, TPPW will hold cheer evaluations, for girls ages 9-15. Date to be announced soon, and will take place prior to June. This is for safety reasons and to form balanced squads, so the girls get the most out of their cheer experience with TPPW. These are NOT tryouts! Everyone is placed on a squad. You can still request to be with a friend or a coach, as we do take that into consideration when placing the girls.

2. Placement on a squad is not determined by the participant’s grade level. Placement on a squad will only be determined by the participant’s age as of 7/31 of the current year and must correspond to the overall ages of the football division for which they are participating.

3. TPPW shall attempt to assign a first-time participant to the lowest age level for which he/she is qualified, but based on evaluations, she may be place higher. We will place siblings together, (unless you request not to) so if a cheerleader has a sibling participating in either football or cheer and their age allows them to be placed at the same level.

4. We try our best, but requests for specific coaches, being placed with friends or carpool reasons are not guarantees for placement on a particular squad.

5. After pre-registering online, cheerleaders will receive a priority number upon registering at one of the in-person registrations. Returning cheerleaders will be given priority over new cheerleaders as long as they register within 30 days of the first in-person registration date. Returning cheerleaders DO NOT need to attend the first registration day to receive priority. Returning cheerleaders who do not register within 30 days of the first walk-in registration will lose their returning cheerleader status. A returning cheerleader is a cheerleader who was on a certified TPPW cheer roster the previous year.

6. Squads will be formed in a manner that allows NO TPPW cheer squad to compete against each other at the Palomar Cheer and Dance Competition. One for all and all for one!

TORREY PINES POP WARNER CHEERLEADING ATTENDANCE POLICY

DO NOT PLAN ANY VACATIONS FOR AUGUST. We do need to be strict about the attendance policy, as it's unfair to the other girls who can't stunt or practice routines because of missing girls. Teamwork depends on everyone.

Preseason Policy:
1. Any cheerleader that misses more than 5 practices (excused or unexcused) prior to the first regular season game is eligible to be removed from the squad.

Please let us know about any already planned trips, issues with shared custody or other pre-existing reasons for missing practices ASAP. Some absences still may not be considered “excused.”

Regular Season and Post Season Attendance Policy:

1. If a cheerleader has one absence (excused or unexcused) during the week she will not be allowed to participate in a stunt group during that week’s game. If a cheerleader misses a game, she will sit out the following game. This is for safety reasons and will not be negotiated.

2. If a cheerleader has two excused* absences from practice during the week, or ONE unexcused absence then she will not be allowed to participate in that week’s game, but will be expected to dress in full uniform and support her squad from the sidelines. Not showing up will result in another missed game the following week.
*Excused absences are legitimate absences (sickness, family emergency, required school function) with notice given at least 24 hours in advance to a head coach. Birthday parties and other social functions will not be excused. Sitting out is for safety reasons, due to lack of practice, and will not be negotiated.

3. If a cheerleader consistently misses or is late for practice, the Head Cheer Coach may change their position in the competition routine as to not affect the performance of the rest of the squad.

4. Cheerleaders must stay the entire practice to be considered in attendance. Arriving more than 10 minutes late or leaving early = absence (see #2 for excused absences)

5. ALL cheerleaders (Flag through Midget) must arrive to a game 30 minutes prior to kick off (e.g., 9:30 for a 10:00 game). Any time after 30 minutes prior to a game is considered late and she will sit out the first quarter. If she arrives after the game has started she will sit out the first half.

6. In the event of a school function that affects a large portion of the squad (i.e. Jr. High dance) the Head Coach may change practice times or dates to accommodate the event, but is not required to do so (we do try to do this).

7. Practice days, times and locations are set by the Head Coach.

8. All cheerleaders will be treated equally.

This policy is applied to ALL cheer squads, Flag - Midget.
